Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication

The publication of articles in Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies, a peer-reviewed academic journal, constitutes a fundamental contribution to the development of a credible, rigorous, and respected body of knowledge in the field of waqf studies. Each published article reflects not only the scholarly quality of the author(s) but also the academic integrity of the institutions with which they are affiliated. Peer-reviewed publications play a vital role in advancing scientific inquiry and ensuring the reliability and validity of academic discourse.

Accordingly, it is essential to establish and uphold clear ethical standards governing the behavior of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, the publisher, and the wider academic community. These standards are designed to promote transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity throughout all stages of scholarly publishing.

Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya, as the publisher of Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies, takes its responsibility as the custodian of the publication process seriously and is fully committed to maintaining ethical oversight at every stage of editorial management. The Editorial Board and the publisher are committed to fostering ethical scholarly communication by facilitating cooperation and communication with other journals and publishers when necessary, particularly in matters related to publication ethics, authorship disputes, corrections, or retractions. Through these commitments, Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies seeks to uphold the highest standards of ethical publishing and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of waqf scholarship at both national and international levels.

Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief of Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies has the authority to determine which manuscripts are suitable for publication after a thorough assessment of their scholarly merit, originality, relevance, and significance to the advancement of waqf studies. Editorial decisions are made in accordance with the journal’s established policies, peer-review outcomes, and prevailing legal and ethical requirements, including those concerning plagiarism, copyright infringement, and defamation. Where necessary, the Editor-in-Chief may seek input from the Editorial Board and external reviewers to ensure that publication decisions are made fairly, objectively, and with academic rigor.

Fair play

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team of Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies evaluate all submitted manuscripts solely on the basis of their academic merit, originality, and relevance, without discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political ideology of the author(s).

Confidentiality

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial staff of Indonesian Journal of Waqf Studies are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and will not disclose any information related to a submission to anyone other than the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, potential reviewers, relevant editorial advisers, or the publisher, as necessary for the editorial and review process.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Any unpublished material or privileged information disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by editors or members of the editorial team for their own research or personal advantage without the explicit written consent of the author(s).

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

The peer-review process supports the editor in making informed and objective publication decisions, and constructive feedback provided through editorial communication also serves to help authors improve the quality, clarity, and scholarly contribution of their manuscripts.

Lead-in times

Any invited reviewer who considers themselves insufficiently qualified to assess a submitted manuscript, or who anticipates being unable to complete the review within the required timeframe, should promptly inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts received for peer review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared with or discussed among third parties, except with the explicit authorization of the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Peer reviews must be conducted in an objective and professional manner. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate, and reviewers are expected to present their evaluations clearly, respectfully, and with well-reasoned arguments supported by relevant evidence or scholarly justification.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers are expected to identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the author(s) and to indicate when observations, interpretations, or arguments have been previously reported, accompanied by appropriate references. Reviewers should also inform the editor of any substantial similarity, overlap, or potential redundancy between the manuscript under review and other published works of which they have direct knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must respect the confidentiality of any privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer-review process and must not use such information for personal benefit. Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other personal or professional relationships with the authors, affiliated institutions, or organizations related to the submitted work.

Duties of Authors

Reporting standards

Authors reporting original research must provide an accurate and honest account of the work conducted, along with an objective interpretation of its significance. All supporting data should be presented clearly and precisely, and the manuscript must include sufficient methodological detail and appropriate references to enable replication by other researchers. Any form of fabrication, falsification, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitutes unethical conduct and will not be tolerated.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their submitted work is entirely original. Any use of others’ ideas, data, words, or expressions must be properly acknowledged through appropriate citation or quotation in accordance with accepted academic standards.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be requested to provide raw data related to their manuscripts for editorial or peer-review purposes. Where feasible, authors should be prepared to make such data publicly accessible in accordance with recognized data-sharing principles and to retain the data for an appropriate period after publication.

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit or publish manuscripts that substantially describe the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals, or redundant publication of previously published work, constitutes unethical publishing practice and is not permitted.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must provide full and proper acknowledgment of all sources that have contributed to their work. Publications that have significantly influenced the conception, design, or interpretation of the reported research should be appropriately cited.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All contributors who meet these criteria should be listed as co-authors, while those who have contributed in a more limited or supportive capacity should be appropriately acknowledged. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission for publication, and that no individual who does not meet the authorship criteria is included as an author.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If a study involves the use of hazardous chemicals, human participants, animals, microorganisms, or procedures and equipment that pose potential risks, authors must clearly identify and describe these hazards in the manuscript and indicate that appropriate ethical approvals and safety measures have been observed.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose in their manuscript any financial, professional, or other substantive conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing the results or interpretation of their research. In addition, all sources of financial support or funding for the study must be clearly acknowledged.

Fundamental errors in published work

When authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obliged to promptly inform the journal editor or publisher and to cooperate fully in issuing corrections, clarifications, or retractions as necessary.
